Juhu

Crimson Tide

Violent waves and a tranquil sunset

It was a failed experiment actually - I arrived a little late for the photographs. And the amount of sunlight was terribly low. The exposure required to capture the fading sun in the background was so long that the water drops in the foreground stopped appearing granular. I planned to make another trip to try the same shoot and get better results - but I simply could not make time for it during my short stint in Mumbai. Now that I have left Mumbai and I am not sure about the next opportunity I will get for shooting such a picture - I am therefore putting the best fotos from that late evening photo-shoot here

What I love most about my apartment ...

... is the view

(The colours in the photos above are the natural colours and there has been no digital or other enhancement)

Footprints in the sands of time

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Postcards from Croatia ( Fall 2004 )

Lugomare - the seaside promenade

The view from my hotel room ( Hotel Ambassador).
Rijeka can be seen in the background (especially the array of lights brightening up the city).

The same view in the morning.

Yet Another View From My Room

Yet another 'same view in the morning'... Note the long line of cars parked along the road

160 godina turizma -
160 years of tourism at Opatija

Decorations as part of the tourism week

Three ladies posing for a photograph besides a small port.

Somewhere between Opatija and Rijeka on the way to Porec.

The Church of Sveti Jakov ( Saint Jacob)

Serenity...

... and turbulence ( Seeing a big wave, we put the camera on timer mode. Not only was the wave much bigger than what we expected, but the timer was way off target too :-( )
Maid with the seagull

Lungomare - the seaside promenade ( The promenade is 12 km long :-o )

The 13th World Puzzle Championships, Opatija

The Opening Ceremony at Hotel Ambassador
- Singers in traditional Croatian ( /Hravatskan) dress.

Note that each singer has a different hair color!

Time to rest after a tiring day - The briefing for the next day's matches.

Who will be the king?
Neils Roest(Netherlands), Roger Barkan(USA) and Ulrich Voigt(Germany)
fight it out in the finals.

Anguish, dejection, relief and fun -
Different emotions during the prize distribution and closing ceremony at Hotel Kvarner
( the hotel is more than 150 years old ).
In the background you can see british puzzlers busy solving a puzzle.

Motovun
The entrance of the Motovun Castle. This castle is the site of the Motovun International Film Festival

The view of the town (along with the two trenches and the road to the castle) from the Castle.

Zagreb
King Tomislav Square

Mimara Museum

Statue near Stone Gate, Upper Town
St. Mark's Church - The tiled room bears the coat of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia, Slavonia and Zagreb

Petrinjska.
For all economy travellers (especially students) - there is a decent youth hostel in this street, and this place is a stone's throw away from Glavni Kolodvor ( The central railway station)

Will update later..
